Depois de instalar, e houveram vários problemas na instalação, o skype, aparece a seguinte mensagem de erro ao tentar atualizar o ubuntu:

Boa, já corrigi, mas o melhor mesmo é: gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Primeiro obrigado pela ajuda que estão dando.
Segui o procedimento acima, transformando a linha em comentário (não acrescentei a mesma linha como comentário, apenas a transformei em comentário) e o resultado final (depois do update e upgrade) foi a mensagem seguinte:

E: A lista de fontes não pode ser lida.

Uma informação que talvez valha a pena:
segui um roteiro para instalar o skype que diz para digitar os comandos
1. sudo apt-add-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner"
2. sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install skype
como não deu certo baixei um pacote .deb do skype (a partir de link no hardware.com.br , vale dizer, no tópico "Skype 4.1 para Linux também tem integração com contatos do Messenger" ou, mais preciso, no link http://www.skype.com/intl/pt-br/get-skype/on-your-computer/linux/ ) e a instalação foi fácil.

Copie esse comando e cole no seu terminal:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* ; sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/* ; sudo apt-get -f install ; sudo apt-get clean ; sudo apt-get update
Aguarde o comando terminar e se não aparecem mais os erros finalize com
sudo apt-get upgrade

Digitei todos os comandos no terminal e apareceu a mensagem:

Veja que para consertar o problema, teríamos que abrir o arquivo sources.list com o o gedit , ir até a linha problemática (97), apagá-la , salvar e sair.Agora onde está esta linha 97 ? Eu só contei 86.Tem algo errado na informação ou existe outra forma de achar a bendita linha 97, que eu não saiba.
Vou postar o meu sources. list(12.04, 32 bits) , se quiser tentar apagar o seu e colocar o meu, faça um backup do sources.list para qq coisa.

No fim do arquivo basta corrigir acrescentando a palavra precise no lugar correto, ou seja, antes do partner.

Obrigado pela sugestão.
Tenho medo de algum arquivo malicioso que se instalou durante a primeira tentativa de instalação do skipe. Se fizer uma modificação desse tipo não tenho certeza alguma sobre arquivos maliciosos.
Mas vou tentar.
(Em último caso reinstalo o ubuntu 12.04 a partir de um cd, e utilizo o HD que estava separado para um XP que não uso mais...)

Editei o arquivo e continua o mesmo problema.
Vale ressaltar que o sistema considera ser um erro grave mas não consegue reportar tal erro.

Será que vale a pena restaurar o ubuntu 12.04?
Se for a melhor opção, como fazer então, tendo um cd de instalação?
(Não tenho arquivos que não possa fazer becape, não tem problema reinstalar do zero, nada perco...)
O problema parece não ter solução. Já li um outro post que relata problema semelhante e tentei todas as alternativas e nada dá certo.
Acho que não vale a pena manter o sistema sem atualizações. Inclusive porque pode indicar a ação de arquivo malicioso.
(É bom lembrar que a Central de Programas não funciona e, para cada erro grave, o sistema não consegue reportar o erro...)

Agradeço por fornecer uma cópia do sources.list.
Substitui o que tinha (que mantive em becape) e funcionou.
Na sequência digitei os comandos no terminal: sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* ; sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/* ; sudo apt-get -f install ; sudo apt-get clean ; sudo apt-get update.
Na sequência digitei sudo apt-get upgrade e funcionou (demorou muito para refazer toda a lista mas atualizou).
Fica guardado o antigo sources.list e uma questão para quem quiser pensar: o que provocou o problema? foi o mero adicionar uma source para instalar o skype? ou foi algum arquivo malicioso (em certo momento da tentativa de instalação do skipe surgia uma frase sobre o "poder da vaca", que pode ser de pura brincadeira, mas pode ser sinal de arquivo malicioso...)?
Considero resolvido o meu problema.

Não me parece em ordem o linux ubuntu 12.04.
Resolvi instalar o Clamtk e fazer uma varredura. Sem terminar a varredura consegue detectar uma ameaça. Mas a sessão encerra bruscamente e é necessário a senha para reiniciar a sessão (não o computador). Em seguida aparece uma mensagem sobre erro grave no sistema e o erro (agora) pôde ser reportado.
Vou continuar testando. Atualização foi feita, mas não sei como está o sistema no momento.

O comando foi realizado no terminal e não apareceu nenhum erro.
O problema é quando tenta fazer um scan com ClamTk, sempre dá uma tela preta e a sessão é reiniciada a partir do momento em que forneço a senha pedida. Ademais o erro, de aplicativo, pode ser relatado pelo sistema, mas, novamente, não está conseguindo relatar (como antes durante a instalação do skype). Agora o erro detectado é no próprio aplicativo que relato erros pelo sistema...
Ainda está muito estranho. E, sem o ClamTk, não aparece problema. Mas temo por um arquivo malicioso -- o próprio clamtk já detectou um arquivo mas não pode terminar o scan.

resolvido o problema do ClamTk:
baixei a versão atual no sourceforge.net (é um pacote debian)
instalei
atualizei as definições de vírus pelo comando freshclam
e mandei fazer o scan
...
não houve qualquer problema, muito menos tela preta ou encerrar sessão
