instalei o ubuntu 7.10 no meu portatil e correu tudo bem, no entanto na parte em que aparece o logotipo do ubuntu e a barra de loading a barra so enche um traçinho depois nunca mais se mexe, ficando assim algum tempo ( cerca de 2 min) depois disso aparece me um ecra preto com umas letras brancas tipo linha de comandos....
Ja experimentei outras versoes pensando que poderia ser bug do ubuntu mas fica sempre naquela parte do logotipo da distribuicao e depois aparece o ecra a preto e as letras brancas, tambem ja experimentei as versoes live-cd do kubunto 7.10 mandriva fedora alinex ,mint todas elas dao em live-cd mas quando instalo da sempre a mesma coisa... a barra de loading ficas parada no primeiro traçinho...
o meu portatil e um acer aspire 5520
amd turing 64 x2
752MB Nvidia geforce 7000M
2GB de Ram
Quero fazer dual boot com o vista premiun

De qualquer forma pegue a mensagem que aparece por último e cole ela aqui, quem sabe não podemos te ajudar.

Faça um favor, se possível. Ligue o PC usando o LiveCD, abra um terminal (Aplicações > Acessórios > Terminal) e digite o comando:
sudo fdisk -l
Com o resultado do comando vamos montar a partição raiz (/) do Ubuntu, e ai você vai colar aqui os arquivos fstab e menu.lst.

Olha, eu já passei por isso um dia. O problema era o seguinte, o ubuntu estava verificando se houve alterações de hardware no meu comp. isso levou 30min.

A imagem tá pequena demais, não dá para ver, mas parece que digitou o comando errado. O correto é o abaixo (mas todo em minúsculo, ok? só coloquei em maiúsculo para você entender).

instalei o kubunto sem erro como ja tinha acontecido com as outras dist elas instalar instalao sem qualquer erro aparente o problema e depois no barra de loading que pára e depois aparece aquela tela preta com aquelas letras brancas!!
entretanto foi lendo por aqui no forum e fiz CTRL + ALT + F1 e apareceu a seguinte tela

- Seu sistema (kubuntu) funciona sem erros?
- Ainda apresenta erros?
- Se apresenta erros você usa o LiveCD?
- Ou consegue entrar nele e usá-lo, apesar dos erros?
- Bem, caso esteja usando o LiveCD execute os comandos abaixo, caso contrário execute o próximo item:
Monte a sua partição raiz:
sudo mount /dev/sda3 /mnt
Execute o comando abaixo e poste o resultado aqui:
blkid
Cole aqui o conteúdo dos arquivos /mnt/etc/fstab e /mnt/boot/grub/menu.lst

Copie o texto diretamente do editor de texto gedit (marque o texto inteiro e depois Ctrl + C), depois abra uma nova mensagem (Responda aqui) e cole o texto (Ctrl V).

Bem, antes de começar não faça nada se as informações abaixo estiverem incorretas.
Pelo que entendi seu HD esta particionado assim:
- /dev/sda1: Reservado pela Compaq
- /dev/sda2: Windows
- /dev/sda3: Ubuntu
- /dev/sda4: swap
Se for isto mesmo vamos lá.
- 1o. Boot com LiveCD
- 2o. Tornar a partição da instalação disponível (montá-la)
sudo mount /dev/sda3 /mnt
- 3o. Backup do arquivo fstab
sudo cp /mnt/etc/fstab /mnt/etc/fstab.bkp.20080327
- 4o. Backup do arquivo menu.lst
sudo cp /mnt/boot/grub/menu.lst /mnt/boot/grub/menu.lst.bkp.20080327
sudo gedit /mnt/etc/fstab
- 6o. Proceda com as alterações abaixo (Estão em negrito)

clcampos desculpe a demora na resposta mas fiquei sem internet e nao tive como responder, ao fazer
sudo gedit /mnt/etc/fstab
aparece me a dizer sudo gedit: command no found
ja experimentei tambem o sudo gedit /mnt/boot/grub/menu.ls e sem sucesso aparece sempre o texto sudo gedit: command no found
tambem experimentei substituir o ficheiro fstab por um ja editado por mim com as configuraçoes que mencionou e diz que no e possivel substituir

A sim, vendo aquela mensagem em que colocou várias imagens (http://ubuntuforum-br.org/index.php/topic,33045.msg197367.html#msg197367) vi que você esta usando o Kubuntu, ou seja o editor que deve usar é o dele, então substitua sudo gedit para sudo kate (se não me engano) nas mensagens que esta dando erro.

Olha eu instalei a minha nvidia 8400Gt com o envy (http://ubuntuforum-br.org/index.php/topic,34186.msg203513.html#msg203513), mas não sei como iria rolar com o 8.04.

Instalei o envy
sudo apt-get install envy
e disse que nao aquele nome estava incorrecto e para experimentar outros, tentei outros nomes que me referiu la na consola e deu consegui instalar o envy e consequentemente a minha placa grafica :D:D

So mais uma coisa, eu trabalho com o dreanwaver e com o Visual Studio dao para emular com o wine sem nenhum problema??

Já consegui usar o wine para o dreamweaver, mas nao a versão CS3, ultimamente li um post interessante, de como instalar uma maquina virtual e o SO que for preciso nela.
