Bom quando vou ver filmes no pc, qualquer filme qualquer extensão, ele fica travando, fica tipo picando. Muito lento mesmo.
Tanto no Toten como no mplayer eles travam....
o que será q esta acontecendo?

Tenta instalar sua placa de vídeo corretamente. Se for Nvidia é muito fácil, as outras eu não sei.

Tentei instalar minha placa de de vídeo da nvidia, através do tutorial: http://breezy.ubuntuguidebrasil.org/ e tbem por aqueles do fórum, e sempre esta dando o mesmo problema:

O que devo fazer p/ solucironar o problema, citado anteriormente?
Minha placa é uma Gforce MX 4000, 64mb (nvidia é claro)

No seu arquivo xorg.conf ache esta seção
Section "Device"

Troque "nv" por "nvidia". Reinicie o xorg, <ctrl>+<alt>+<backspace>. Se funcionar vai aparecer o logo da nvidia.

Bom a dica do tfmoraes, funcionou na instalação da NVIDIA, só que o filme continua travando. Ele ainda fica picando, video e o som. Pois mp3 e genéricos funcionam de boa...

Bom eu nem sei ao menos o q é bem esse tal de DMA, e também não sei se esta ativo. Pesquesei no forum e vi um jeito de ver informações, só q não entendi patavas eheheh. Ai se você pudesse me dar uma ajuda ai, vendo se esta ativado. Se não estiver manda ai o q devo fazer p/ ativa-lo

O dma deve ser ativado assim
sudo hdparm -d1 /dev/cdrom
Adicione as seguintes linhas ao final do arquivo, após edita-lo
sudo gedit /etc/hdparm.conf
/dev/cdrom {
dma = on
}

Não, mesmo eu aplicando o:
sudo hdparm -d /dev/cdrom (tentando ver o filme pleo cdrom)
sudo hdparm -d /dev/hda (pelo hd)
ele continua travando
O que poderia ser?

Neste caso poderia ser os codecs usados no seu player de video, ou mesmo uma configuração não adequada da sua placa de video.
Procure no fórum sobre o assunto que tem bastante para ler.
Tenho problema parecido com o seu apos a instalação do Ubuntu 5.10, mas é resolvido quando ativo o DMA.

bom so consegui vizualizar meus videos normalzinho através do Xine-ui , que instalei através da dica no

Mas o MPlayer e o Toten ainda continuam picando filmes. Qual será o problemas com eles, visto que o Xine-ui ta funcionando blzinha.
E outra coisa, como tinha associado o MPlayer ao firefox, para ver meus trailers, como na dica do galactus:
