Amigos,
Sempre usei esse fórum como visitante para solucionar minhas dúvidas. E quase sempre obtive sucesso.
"Quase sempre" pq agora não estou conseguindo solucionar um problema com o "apt-get update".
E por esse motivo que me registrei no fórum!
Não me desapontem! hahahahaha!
Eis o que acontece.
Toda vez que tento executar o apt-get update pelo terminal, ele leva uma eternidade para carregar e fica, constantemente, com a mensagem "aguardando por cabeçalhos" e não sai disso.

Inclusive, já mudei várias vezes o sources.list seguindo várias dicas deste fórum e não tive sucesso.
Caso alguém possa me ajudar, serei eternamente grato. (exagerado assim mesmo...)

Arthur, eu peguei este arquivo da internet em um gerador de sources para Ubuntu.
Como falei anteriormente, não entendo muito de Linux.
Tenho a versão 12.04 LTS.

Vamos lá, abra sua sources.list com um editor de texto de sua preferência (vi, vim, nano, pico, gedit, pluma, etc...) e apague todo o conteúdo do arquivo, e cole o conteúdo abaixo.

Estou executando os comandos após ter alterado a lista de sources.

Deletei tudo o que tinha dentro do sources.list e comecei a executar os comandos que você me indicou.
Após executar o "sudo apt-get autoremove --purge" eu fui executar o "sudo apt-get update" e tudo se manteve na mesma:

Na list inteira tem comandos pedindo pra ser rodados pra pegar as keys, vc não tem as keys, é óbvio, ai a última, só de exemplo

Agora já alterei a list inteira para a que o Arthur me indicou.
Eu já havia alterado a list diversas vezes para ver se o erro mudava... E não teve resultado.

Cara, ta dando erro por falta de keys, teu sources.lit portado aqui TEM os comandos exatos pra pegar e instalar essas keys do modo mais simples possível, pra que ta quebrando a cabeça?

Depois, execute os seguintes comandos abaixo.

Ola agregando, provavelmente a sua lista nao foi salva e tudo se manteve na mesma porque para abrir esse arquivo precisa ser root entao, agregando ao que o Arthur reportou;
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Apague todo o conteudo e ai vc cola o que ele te passou;

Pronto, salve e agora tente dar um upgrade, coloca essa linha toda no terminal;
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* ; sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/* ; sudo apt-get clean ; sudo apt-get -f install ; sudo apt-get update
Se ainda der problemas com chaves, algum erro GPG no terminal vc instale esse pacote;
http://ppa.launchpad.net/nilarimogard/webupd8/ubuntu/pool/main/l/launchpad-getkeys/launchpad-getkeys_0.3.2-1~webupd8~oneiric_all.deb
instale o deb e depois rode o comando no terminal;
sudo launchpad-getkeys ; sudo apt-get update
Sempre que houver problemas com chave, e so rodar esse comando novamente.

Alterei o source.list mais uma vez e salvei, tudo certo.
Mas deu problema de GPG novamente. Instalei o pacote que me indicaste e estou executando o comando sudo launchpad-getkeys ; sudo apt-get update
conforme me indicou.
Atualmente ele está assim:
Please wait... launchpad-getkeys is running an update so
it can detect the missing GPG keys
Faz uns minutos já isso.
É normal?
Devo aguardar?

Hehehe ai nao amiguinho :) vc precisa estar conectado a internet para que ele baixe as chaves para vc, veja la nos seus canais de software em editar->canais de software se esta marcado servidor do brasil, se ja estiver escolha outro na lista mais proximo da sua localidade. Veja o modo como vc acessa a internet se esta tudo ok com a sua conexao.

Realizei a alteração do servidor padrão.
E, ao lançar o apt-get update, aparece a seguinte mensagem:
E: Tipo '“deb' não é conhecido na linha 1 na lista de fontes /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list
E: A lista de fontes não pode ser lida.
O que sugeres?

Como vc ja resetou a sua sources.list ao estado original de "fabrica", pode resetar tbm a sources.list.d e começar tudo do zero, isntalando as aplicaçoes que deseja.
Voce pode remover o arquivo(s) referente ao virtualbox que esta dando o problema;
gksu nautilus
e navegue ate;
etc/apt/sources.list.d
E apague ele.

Deletei a pasta sources.list.d como havia me indicado e, ao tentar rodar o apt-get update, apareceu o seguinte:
E: Não foi possível obter trava /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11: Recurso temporariamente indisponível)
E: Impossível criar acesso exclusivo ao directório /var/lib/apt/lists/

É para vc entrar dentro dela e apagar somente o arquivo referente ao virtualbox :)
Se vc consegue restaurar ela da lixeira, restaure, se nao vamos criar ela novamente(essa pasta existe para separar os PPAS que adicionamos no sistema, que sao de terceiros, dos repositorios oficiais do ubuntu)
Vamos arrumar;
gksu nautilus
navegue ate;
/etc/apt/
crie novamente a pasta com exatamente o nome;
sources.list.d
em minuscula mesmo, como esta escrito ai.
clique com o direito do mouse sobre ela e depois na guia propriedades e depois em permissoes, e ela deve estar exatamente como na foto abaixo;

Feche tudo, e agora como usuario normal(sem ser com o gksu) va ate la novamente navegando ate /etc/apt e agora clique novamente com o direito do mouse na pasta sources.list.d e em propriedades e depois em permissoes ela deve esta exatamente como na foto;

Realizei esses passos aqui:
anon-proxy is indeed an issue..
one may use sudo apt-get autoremove anon-proxy to remove it... but some config files still remain to be purged and then may use dpkg --purge anon-proxy and then restart networking to solve the issue (connection refused)
Porém, agora tenho outro problema.
Ao tentar instalar o VirtualBox.
Baixei direto do site do aplicativo, a última versão compatível com meu processamento (i368) (.deb). (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads)
E, ao abrir com a "Central de programas do Ubuntu", eu clico em "instalar" e nada acontece.
Alguém tem alguma sugestão para o que posso tentar para instalar o VirtualBox?

Abre o terminal, vai até onde o arquivo .deb foi baixado e põe isso:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Caso dê algum problema com dependências, põe isso aqui:

Pelo que pude entender, leigo que sou, acho que o VirtualBox anterior continua instalado na minha máquina. Mesmo eu tendo desinstalado via "Central de Programas do Ubuntu".
Como devo proceder pra solucionar esse problema ou, qualquer outro que seja?

porque o local onde você executou o comando
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
havia duas versões do vitualbox, uma 32bits e outra 64bits e o comando em questão está mandando instalar tudo que é .deb no local de onde foi executado o comando.
Remover algo pela central não vai apagar o cache do .deb baixado, apenas vai remover a instalação do pacote, mas em cache o .deb pode ainda estar lá.

onde foi mesmo que você deu este comando (sudo dpkg -i *.deb), em que pasta?
a pasta de cache do apt-get/Synaptic/central de programas é /var/cache/apt/archives e se você quiser apenas remover alguns .deb entre nela e escolha quais devem ser removido (deletados).
Se quer remover tudo que é .deb de lá o comando seria:
sudo apt-get clean

seu sistema é 64bits ou 32bits?
virtualbox-4.3_4.3.0-89960~Ubuntu~precise_amd64.deb (este é para 64bits)
virtualbox-4.3_4.3.0-89960~Ubuntu~precise_i386.deb (este é para 32bits)
para instalar um pacote por vez o comando é:
sudo dpkg -i nome_do_pacote.deb
ao invés de:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
que como disse antes instala tudo que é .deb da pasta em questão.

não precisa já que não tem nada lá.
Seus .deb, como você mesmo disse, estão em Downloads, então não é legal usar um comando para instalar tudo que tem lá em .deb se existe pacotes .deb que entram em conflito, entendeu?

O que faço?
Estou tentando instalar o VirtualBox 4.3 mas não estou conseguindo.
Nem executar o arquivo .deb que baixei na pasta Downloads está resolvendo. A central de programas abre, eu clico em instalar e coloco a senha. A central parece que vai carregar a instalação, mas não acontece nada.

Resolvi o problema anterior lançando um "killall" no apt-get
Agora aparece o seguinte:

Segui o indicado pelo Arthur Bernardes e retornei ao meu antigo Virtualbox.
Porém ao iniciar minha máquina virtual, aparece o seguinte erro:
Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)
The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing
'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'
as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.
Outro erro:
Falha ao abrir uma sessão para a máquina virtual windowsxp.
The virtual machine 'windowsxp' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1.
Como devo proceder pra resolver este problema?

depois pelo terminal digita:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dkms
o pacote dkms vai ser o responsável pelo não aparecimento mais desse pedido para rodar sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup toda vez que você atualizar, por exemplo, o kernel do Ubuntu.

Veja se em /etc/init.d/ tem o arquivo vboxdrv ou algo bem parecido com isso (pode o nome ter sido um pouco alterado). Se não tiver então algo deu errado na sua instalação do VirtualBox.

Remova tudo que é Virtualbox com o comando:
sudo apt-get purge virtualbox-4*
E depois instale o dkms como o amigo sugeriu, com o comando:
sudo apt-get install dkms
E depois faça o download da versão 4.2.18 do Virtualbox (32 bits) e instale-o com os seguintes comandos em terminal:
cd /tmp ; wget -c http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.2.18/virtualbox-4.2_4.2.18-88780~Ubuntu~precise_i386.deb ; sudo dpkg -i virtualbox-4.2_4.2.18-88780~Ubuntu~precise_i386.deb ; sudo service vboxdrv setup
Depois, instale o pacote de extensão, baixe-o do seguinte link:
- http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.2.18/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.2.18.vbox-extpack (http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.2.18/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.2.18.vbox-extpack)

Eu prefiro ir assim:
- Remova todos os pacote .deb do Virtualbox presente na sua pasta de Downloads do Ubuntu.
- Considerando que você já removeu todas as instalações do Virtualbox existentes no seu sistema e instalou o pacote dkms, baixe os seguintes arquivos:
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.3.0/virtualbox-4.3_4.3.0-89960~Ubuntu~precise_i386.deb
e
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.3.0/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.0-89960.vbox-extpack
Depois de baixado e dentro da pasta Downloads pelo terminal, executar o comando:
sudo dpkg -i virtualbox-4.3_4.3.0-89960~Ubuntu~precise_i386.deb
alternativa gráfica a isso, clicar duas vezes (clique duplo) sobre o arquivo virtualbox-4.3_4.3.0-89960~Ubuntu~precise_i386.deb digitar sua senha quando pedido e esperar a instalação. Esta forma é mais demorada, pois abre a central de programas para instalação e demora o processo.
- Depois falo sobre o outro pacote baixado ok, por hora veja se o VB funciona. Mas antes, ainda faz mais isso no terminal:
sudo adduser seu_usuário vboxusers
troque o que destaquei em vermelho pelo seu nome de usuário, aquele que você digita para entrar no Ubuntu. No meu caso o comando seria assim:
sudo adduser linuser104 vboxusers (apenas um exemplo)
- se ainda precisar, roda o comando:
sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
outra vez.

ok, acho que falta os pacotes de compilação, então instala ele:
sudo apt-get install build-essential fakeroot linux-headers-`uname -r`
depois retorna o processo anterior.

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing
'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'
as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.

E: Impossível encontrar o pacote linux-headers-2.6.38-11-generic-pae

Não entendo muito dessas instalações. Mas me parece que ele identificou algo errado, sei lá.

acho melhor você fazer um:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
antes de qualquer coisa.
Realmente é estranho pois acho que no Ubuntu 12.04 o kernel já era da versão 3.2.x e não 2.6 ainda.

no 12.04 como ja foi reportado, e 3.2 no lançamento e na ultima versao 3.8 no 12.04.3

Boa noite pessoal.
Agradeço a todos que responderam e me ajudaram nesta saga maluca.
Com o auxílio de todos por aqui e, via skype, com o Arthur Bernardes, consegui resolver meu problema.
Infelizmente, a única saída para o que tinha sido feito era a formatação da minha partição HOME. Afinal, eu tinha atualizado da versão 10.10 para a 12.10 direto e isso acabou corrompendo inúmeros fatores da minha "nova" instalação.
Agradeço infinitamente à todos que ajudaram e, sempre que possível, ajudarei outras pessoas neste e em outros fóruns voltados ao Ubuntu. Um grande S.O. :)
