Como Instalar o Driver Intel Extreme Graphics 865G no Ubuntu 8.10

Eu instalei o Ubuntu a alguns dias, nunca tive contato com outro OS sempre usei o do tio Bil

Logo quando eu iniciei o Ubuntu já havia um problema a ser resolvido, a resolução estava em 800x600 por instinto eu já fui logo procurando alguma coisa haver com sistema e configuração e achei mas ela não passava de  800x600.
 
Procurei na internet e achei uma possível solução editar o arquivo xorg.conf depois que eu editei o arquivo a resolução finalmente chegava a o seu máximo 1024x768 quando eu reiniciei o xorg.conf logo de cara veio um erro que não me lembro muito bem oque dizia porque eu só o vê uma vez mas era alguma coisa haver com o xorg.com logo em seguida eu novamente editei novamente o xorg.conf dessa vez com mais cautela e pronto o problema do erro sumiu mas agora os efeitos visuais do Ubuntu estão desativados eu não consigo reativar(normal)
