editei o arquivo /etc/sysctl.conf e coloquei as seguintes linhas:
vm.overcommit_ratio = 50
vm.overcommit_memory = 1
vm.drop_caches = 3

depois fui para o arquivo /etc/security/limits.conf e coloquei as seguintes linhas:
marcos     soft       nofile      1024
marcos     hard       nofile      10000

e agora os comandos estão dando os seguintes resultados:
comando: lsof | wc -l
resultado -> 3862

comando: cat /proc/sys/fs/file-nr
resultado: 4032    0       152659

comando: sysctl fs.file-nr
resultado -> fs.file-nr = 4000       0       152659

ainda não tive um tempinho para ficar abrindo alguns arquivos para ver se ainda acontece....mais amanhã testo e coloco o resultado

Não se esqueça de:

1 - Dar um sudo sysctl -p para "entrar" no sistema as configs...

2 - Limpar a sua sessão do gnome

3 - Ver se tem muitos arquivos que são abertos junto com a sessão do gnome (o que explica esse número gigantesco que vc tem)

4 - Dar um ps aux e colar o resultado aqui

1 - quando fiz as alterações nos arquivos dei o comando solicitado....sysctl -p
2 - não sei como fazer essa limpeza...vc quer limpar arquivos temporarios?
3 - não entendi bem, vc quer saber o que é aberto junto com o gnome ou quer saber quais programas eu tenho instalado?
