Sem Internet na Consola (Resolvido)

Boa noite amigos,

Após ter pesquisado não encontrei absolutamente nada que conseguisse resolver o meu problema.

Sou novo no linux... Acabei de instalar à pouco tempo a versão 10.04.
Contudo, tenho uma noção muito básica de alguns comandos que se podem aplicar aqui !

A minha dúvida é a seguinte.
Após ter instalado o Ubuntu 10.04 inseri a minha placa wireless (D-Link DWL-G122) e para meu espanto funcionou perfeitamente.
Detectou de imediato a minha rede wireless e introduzi então a minha password. Tendo sucesso na ligação...

Mas, após ter necessitado de utilizar a consola com o comando sudo apt-get install build-essential
Não me foi possível... Aparecendo-me este erro:

eissotudo@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install build-essential
A ler as listas de pacotes... Pronto
A construir árvore de dependências      
A ler a informação de estado... Pronto
E: Impossível encontrar o pacote build-essential

No início, pensei que fosse algum problema com os sites a que o ubuntu iria buscar o pacote build-essential mas, depois de tentar outro comando qualquer, pareceu-me que a consola não assume conecção com a internet.
Vejam-me a tentar instalar o xmms

eissotudo@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install xmms

E: Impossível encontrar o pacote xmms

Talvez seja amigo, eu precisei de o editar e no VOL disseram para apagar todo o conteúdo e colar um conteúdo que lá tinha...

Deve ter sido isso. Como posso agora ficar com um mais actualizado?
