remover splash screen e menu inicial de boot no ubuntu

Colegas,

Estou tendo dificuldades em remover o splash screen e o menu inicial de boot do meu ubuntu instalado no pendrive. Para que vocês se contextualizem no meu problema e eu não precise ter que escrever tudo que já fiz, acho melhor passar o link do tópico que comecei em outro forum (antes de conhecer este do ubuntu). Pessoal, nenhuma solução?! Ainda não consegui fazer o que eu queria... estou quase desistindo. =/ Também serveria mudar o splash e para ser sincero já tentei isso uma vez. Contudo como estou rodando um pendrive de emergência não havia espaço suficiente no mesmo para recompilar o iso contido no cdrom emulado. Assim, como nao consegui alterar o splash, estou pelo menos tentando removê-lo, mas a coisa está parecendo impossível.

Fiz conforme está no link, mas não funcionou no meu caso. Segue abaixo o meu grub.cfg
