Atualização derrubou meu X

Logo após ter instalado meu adsl pedi pra atualizar totalmente meu ubuntu 6.10. Reusultado: apareceu no grub que já havia 4 opções de kernel e meu windows xp sp2, agora mais dois kernels(um normal e seu corresponde secure mode, alguma coisa assim(me corijam!)). Neste novo kernel ocorre falha no X que captou e não sei o que fazer. Por favor, orientem me sobre como proceder com atualizações pois newbies fazem coisas bem desnecessárias! Possuo uma Placa mãe Nforce(video, som, lan, todos onboards) Asus A7n266-vm. Obrigado

Qual a opção de boot que está com problemas? 2.6.17.10 , 2.6.17.10-generic ou 2.6.17.11-geeneric?

Sugiro que a opção problemática seja comentada no grub e modo que não seja incluída como opção de boot válida.

Ex.: se for a 2.6.17.10-generic...
