Como posso instalar o driver para Modem Intel 537EP

O que fazer?

Faz o seguinte, reinicie o seu PC e se estiver com o gnome-ppp instalado, abra-o vá em configuração na aba modem deixe como dispositivo o /dev/537 ( se não funcionar tente o genérico /dev/modem) e na aba opções deixe marcada a opção que fala sobre terminal burro. Coloque seus daods pessoais e tente discar.

Outra coisa que você deve fazer é:

Abra um terminal e digite:

sudo gedit /etc/ppp/pap-secrets

e coloque no final deste arquivo isso:

"usuario@provedor.com.br" * "senha1234"

obviamente mudando usuario@provedor.com.br para o valor correto do seu nome de usuário e senha1234 para sua senha do provedor. Copie e cole e só altere os valores falados entre as duas aspas (" ").

sudo gedit /etc/ppp/chap-secrets

Repita a mesma coisa do já flado acima neste outro arquivo.

Aparentenmente a única parte que parece ser erro é no final:

chmod: impossível acessar `usrsound': Arquivo ou diretório inexistente
installing hamregistry, used for persistant storage
installing usrsound, a soft buzzer
install: impossível fazer stat em `usrsound': Arquivo ou diretório inexistente

onde está em negrito que fala sobre o usrsound.


A palavra "warning:" que aparece em vários momentos da compilação, não se preocupe que não são erros somente alertas.

mas você tentou com o dispositivo /dev/537 ao invés do /dev/modem?

Outra coisa, antes de usar o /dev/modem abra o terminal e digite:

é que no gnome-ppp não vem pré-estabelecido o /dev/537 só estas aí mesmo tente primeiro isso:

sudo chmod 666 /dev/modem

e depois use o /dev/modem mesmo. Se não funcionar você digita em dispositivo no gnome-ppp: /dev/537

eh galera esse driver não quer compilar mesmo, fiz tudo conforme o alarcon me instruiu e nada  , mais eu acho que é melhor deixar como está, enquanto eu não colocar uma internet  descente aqui em minha casa vai ficar assim mesmo, sem internet, sem Ubuntu enquanto isso eu aposento meu Ubuntu..... lamentavel, mais é a vida, ja perdi muito tempo e sono com esse maldito driver que não compila........

Você é quem sabe.

O melhor mesmo seria você ter um softmodem que usa driver Smartlink, o melhor para linux na minha opinião, como por exemplo o LG Neto Dragon ou LG LM-I56N ou o Motorola que tem esta ID 1057:3052 , mas falar de nome para softmodems é complicado, pois muitas vezes você compra dizendo ser um e quando vai olhar a ID do modem na realidade ele é outro tipo.

Editado: Outra coisa, via terminal, dê mais este comando:

sudo chmod a+x /usr/sbin/pppd

e veja se seu usuário também pertence a este grupo: dip

Cara, pelo que vejo, seu modem já está instalado. Agora é configurar para usá-lo. Você tentou usar o gnome-ppp e não funcionou, aqui acontece o mesmo. Eu uso o comando pppconfig para configurar, depois o comando pon nomeProvedor para discar e poff para desconectar. Parece difícil, mas não é. Tenta aí.

De qualquer forma quero tentar novamente instalar esse modem...
tive lendo o readme que vem junto com o pacote e tem uns comando nele que vcs podem me explicar de como fazer? O ultimo resultado que eu obtive foi o seguinte:

Please examine the 537_inst and 537_boot scripts if you have a different distribution.

The driver registers itself as character device
   major number 240, minor number 1.
The driver takes one argument right now, which is used to enable softbuzzer. It is disabled by default.

ATTENTION:  if the driver compiles but the script just wont work for you.
   Here are the bare minimum steps to get your modem to work.

   0.  log in as root.
   1.  insmod -f Intel537.o    (Intel537.ko for kernel 2.6)
   2. you can start "hamregistry &" at this point if you wish.
   3.  rm /dev/537
   4.  mknod /dev/537 c 240 1   (note "240" is the default, if it does not
       work see what /proc/devices says 537's major number is)
   5.  ln -s /dev/537 /dev/modem
   6.  start a comm application like minicom and use the modem.
   7.  see section 3 (International Users) for info on setting the correct
       country settings.

Descompacte e faça:

make clean

sudo make install

Atenção: Lembre-se que para se compilar um driver antes é necessário ter alguns pacotes instalados no seu sistema, mas isso você já deve saber ou devia.

Depois reinicie seu sistema e se não funcionar abra um terminal e digite:

sudo gedit /etc/udev/rules.d/intel537.rules

se abrir um arquivo vazio, muito provavelmente, cole nele exatamente isto aqui:

Ali diz  `Intel537.ko': Arquivo ou diretório inexistente, mais eu localizei esse arquivo, ele esta na pasta /etc se não me engano.

E quando eu tento conectar pelo Gnome PPP me vem a seguinte mensagem:

Eu acho que o modem ja esta instalado, só não estou conseguindo fazer com que o discador reconheça o driver... será que estou certo?

Lhe indiquei este driver por que uso o Archlinux aqui em outra partição e navegando pelos repositórios dele vi este driver aí. Se ele tem este driver é por que deve funcionar nele e como o kernel do Archlinux é o kernel 2.6.22 (o do Ubuntu é o 2.6.20.x), pensei que poderia funcionar no Ubuntu também, mas pelo que vejo não funcionou.

Infelizmente não tenho mais nada a dizer para lhe ajudar. Acho melhor você trocar para um modem que use driver smartlink.
