ubuntu 8.04 nao atualiza

bom dia galera, quando tento atualizar meu ubuntu da esse erro A Ler Listas de Pacotes... Erro !

E: Um erro ocorreu ao processar foomavic-db-hpijs (UsePacote3)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: As listas de pacotes ou o ficheiro de status não pôde ser analisado ou aberto.

valeu da dica mais o erro permanece o erro permanece ai vai mais alguns dados .

no adicionar remover fala isso

tentei mais nao consigo , eu digito     " sudo gedit /etc/sources.list "    a pasta esta vazia  nao tem nada la .
