Resolução do Monitor no Ubuntu 8.10

Instalei hoje o Ubuntu 8.10 mas surgiu um problema.

A resolução do monitor passou a ser 800x600 em vez de 1024x768. Quando eu instalava o Ubuntu 8.04 também me acontecia o mesmo mas eu executava o comando gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf e alterava os parâmetros. Após reiniciar o computador a resolução passava a 1024x768 tal como eu desejava.

Tentei executar este mesmo comando no Ubuntu 8.10 mas aparece-me tudo em branco, o ficheiro não tem nada escrito.

 - O que devo fazer para alterar a definição do monitor ?
 - Qual é o ficheiro que tem as definições da placa gráfica, resolução de monitor, etc ? E qual é o comando que deverei executar na consola para o abrir ?

Amigo, vc pode tentar ir pelo modo gráfico.

Vá em Sistema-Preferências-Resolução de Tela.

Quem sabe pode de ajudar.

Isso não vai adiantar se a resolução que ele quer, não estiver listada no xorg.conf. Primeiro, edite o xorg.conf e depois vá na resolução de tela.

Olá. Estou com um problema para configurar a resolução do monitor um pouco diferente do que tenho visto nos fóruns.
O monitor é o LG 520Si

Tentei várias coisas e até consegui colocar a resolução 1024x768 na lista de opções, mas o problema é que ela não coube no monitor, ficando umas 2 vezes o tamanho da tela. E não adianta configurar o tamanho da tela pelos botões do monitor. Além disso, no manual consta que para essa resolução a frequência vertical deve ser de 60Hz, mas só aparece a opção 75Hz.

Curiosamente aparece uma resolução 832x624 @ 75Hz que funciona perfeitamente.

Alguma luz?

Putz, era bom demais pra ser verdade... Parece que a resolução ter dado certo foi só um acidente, pois assim que reiniciei a máquina o problema voltou. Alguma luz? Ou compro um monitor novo, rs?

Aqui no meu notebok só haviam resoluções de 800x600 e 640x480.   Fiz as alterações abaixo e funcionou, surgiram resoluções de 1280x768 e 1024x768.

eu havia visto essa sua dica em outro tópico, mas comigo não funcionou.
Bom, o monitor era um modelo muito antigo. Nunca me animei a trocá-lo porque estava praticamente só usando o note. Daí eu animei e comprei um novo hoje e as resoluções aparecem normalmente. Tô usando 1440x900 agora.

Cada hora é uma. Embora este seja um fórum de linux, agora queria pedir uma ajuda de resolução no XP.
O monitor que comentei aí em cima foi identificado perfeitamente pelo Ubuntu 8.1, incluindo a resolução padrão 1440x900 @60Hz
Tenho o Windows XP no mesmo computador, mas nele não apareceu tal resolução entre as opções. Praticamente só apareceram resoluções 4:3.
Alguém teve o mesmo problema? Procurei na net e algumas pessoas sugeriam comprar uma placa de video offboard. Entretanto, como o monitor funciona normal no Linux, imagino que não seja problema de capacidade de placa e sim de configuração do sistema mesmo.

Tenho um notebook antigo da série Satelite 1800, pentium III 1Gz - 512 de mem. Instalei o Ubuntu 6.06 LTS e funcionou  sem problemas com a resolução de 1024 x 768, escolhendo-a no início da instalação. Como era uma versão muito antiga
resolví baixar e instalar a versão 9.04, ocorrendo o seguinte problema. A resolução máxima não passa de 800 x 600.
Verifiquei em alguns fóruns e executei algumas das soluções tais como:
-sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg e outras.
Como não consegui nada, reinstalei o 6.06 peguei a configuração desta versão, instalei outra vez a versão 9.04,
substituindo as configurações achadas pela versão 6.06.
Mesmo assim nada aconteceu.
Alguém poderia me dar alguma luz, já que conheço bem pouco de Linux?

Por que uma versão mais antiga nos dá uma opção na instalação (F4) para escolher a resolução
e uma versão mais moderna não nos dá?

Nao consigo a resolucao do boot mesmo mudando a linha do menu.lst do grub.
Acho que o sistema entra no X11 e depois 800x600, entro login e senha, depois vai para 1024x768.

eu tentei tudo que falaram ai...

quando vou salvar, vem uma mensagem de erro dizendo:

não sei se o erro foi meu... pois eu não sei mexer no linux direito... acabei de instalar ele... rsrsrs
mas o engraçado é que quando eu rodava ele do cd, ficava na resolução correta...
depois de instalar, só vai até 800x600...
não sei mais o que fazer!
estou cheia de problemas com ele...
pois quando rodava do CD, era as mil maravilhas... depois de instalar está todo problemático!
nem os plugins estou conseguindo instalar....
alguém me socorre?!O_O
