Pessoal sou novo no pedaço, resolvir instalar o ubuntu 8.10 em uma segunda partição , para ficar com dual boot , porém tá entrando direto no ubuntu . Como faço para iniciar o winxp.

Amigo faça o seguinte:

- Abra o terminal e digite:

sudo nautilus
Navegue até a pasta /boot/grub

Abra o arquivo menu.lst

Copie e poste aqui pra gente.

Falando sério, não encontrei nada nas configurações de boot para definir isso.
Em primeiro lugar, como fez para instalar? Está seguro de que manteve a partição primária ntfs do windows, instalando o Ubuntu em outra partição?

Comigo aconteceu também essa "coisa boa" rsrsrsr

Brincadeiras à parte...

Pelo que entendi, ele instalou o ubuntu em outro HD, de repente, o grub colocou o ubuntu como boot direto e não reconheceu a partição do winXP, ou, deixou as linhas do menu.lst na partição do win como comentário. (algo menos provável), mas vamos ver o menu.lst dele pra ver como está lá.
Caso contrário descrevo a ele como reinstalar o grub via liveCD.

Eu digito dou enter e pede senha , mas não digita a snha. ( digito mas não aparece) .

O que faço?

Obs: O HD é um de 160 GB  particionado.
A partição ntfs não mexi.

Isso mesmo, a senha não aparece por medida de segurança, mas ela está sendo digitada sim.

O modo terminal é o consola mesmo, estou no aguardo.

Não amigo, não é o conteúdo do terminal, e sim do arquivo menu.lst
