como instalar irda usb

Bom dia,
sou usuario novo no LINUX, instalei em meu notebook ACER Aspire o Linux Ubuntu 9.10 e não consegui fazer funcionar minha unidade USB de Infra vermelho da X5TECH. Procurei aqui no forum mas não encontrei. No site do fabricante não aparece suporte para esse componente.

Alguem pode postar uma ajuda de como identificar se o LINUX identificou o IRDA e como fazê-lo funcionar?
