Atualização - problema com Synaptic

Olá, estou com problema no synaptic. Já havia atualizado o sistema várias vezes, porém há uns quatro dias atrás quando estava fazendo as atualizações recomendadas, na hora da atualização do plugin do flash ele travou e eu desliguei o computador.
Agora, quando vou abrir o synaptic ele dá a mensagem: dpkg foi interrompido, você precisa manualmente rodar 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' para corrigir o problema.

Só que quando eu dou este comando no terminal, aparece a mensagem abaixo:

Ele fica tentando indeterminadamente, às vezes até cinco tentativas (entre uma tentativa e outra são 15 minutos). O mais estranho é que eu coloquei aquela url no firefox e consegui baixar o arquivo tar.gz, mas isso não me adianta nada pois meu problema principal é o synaptic que continua travado e dando aquela mensagem citada no início.


Uso o Ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, só que instalado na versão em inglês (preferi assim para treinar o idioma).

Meu sources.list é o seguinte (não esqueçam que meu sistema está em inglês):

Em  Menu Aplicativos -> Acessórios -> Terminal
digite o texto:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
informe a senha, sua de usuário normal.

É exatamente isso que eu faço no terminal, deixei ele tentando 11 vezes, das 11:14h às 13:45h:

Ele cai na mesma, pelo menos diz que há um pacote não totalmente instalado ou removido, que é o flashplugin-installer.

Já tentei reconfigurar (diz que o pacote está quebrado ou não totalmente instalado):
sudo dpkg-reconfigure flashplugin-installer
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: flashplugin-installer is broken or not fully installed

Ok,agora vamos remover esse pacote quebrado ok:

Overlock@, não cheguei a tentar a tua última dica porque não a havia lido ainda, mas creio que iria funcionar também. De qualquer maneira muito obrigado pela atenção dispensada.
Removi o pacote com o comando abaixo e reinstalei o pacote adobe-flashplugin e não o problemático flashplugin-installer:

Uma dica,quando você utiliza a conta root não precisa do sudo,e evite ficar utilizadando a conta do root,pois use o sudo,fica somente a dica ok?
